I wrote 500 words of a short transition scene tonight. Now I have got to the point where I need to find out what happens next. I have an idea of what I want to happen in the next scene but I need some character development there and I need to know what happens after that.
So, it's back to my preparation notes which gives me an assortment of scenes that still need to happen... about 15 more, which at my average will be another 15,000 words. There is a lot that needs to go around those 15 scenes. This is because the farther you plan into a novel the less meat you have on them bones. I need to create some meat, hopefully within 10,000 words otherwise I'll be hitting over the 100,000 word mark.
Along with those scenes I have a number of threads I have introduced that I need to resolve. From these I get the following questions that must be answered:
- How do Eloise and Daenal 'get back together'?
- In what circumstances does Edward sacrifice his life for Eloise's?
- Does Daenal find out about the Blue Cloaks?
I am sure there will be many more before I have the next few scenes in my mind. I'm thinking the answers to those top two questions will be related. Hm, but how?
