I complete my first preparation challenge: Find the Idea and promptly sign up for the next one: Anchor It. I had an idea for NaNoWriMo a few months back and was really excited about it. It seemed to be about 50,000 words so I put it aside, content that I had NaNoWriMo sorted. As part of the challenge I pulled it all out again with the intention of seeing how well the idea would mould to a modern NZ setting rather than historical English one. Well, I discovered two things:

  1. Yes, it will mould to a modern NZ setting.
  2. I have no idea why I was so excited about this idea!!

I thought I had a lot more key stuff identified. Now I look at the ideas for scenes and I see no conflict and no change occuring. I wonder if this is because of what I've learned since coming up with the idea. It's a much more emotionally charged idea than I usually write. Usually I have plenty of action and fun fantasy world stuff to compliment it. I've had time to sleep on it and I think I can build a lot around this base idea. There's just a little more work to do than I expected. Now I think I'll definately be in on all those prep challenges!
